HUNDREDS of rowers took to the River Tees at the weekend for its annual regatta.

The Tees Regatta, believed to have first been held in 1865, saw rowers come from different parts of the country with dozens of different events taking place, near the Watersports Centre in Stockton.

The event is hosted by Tees Rowing Club and featured a four-lane, fully-buoyed, 850-metre course immediately upstream from the Tees Barrage, with the finishing line outside the River Tees Watersports Centre, North Shore.

It is an official date on the British rowing calendar, with a range of rowing events in three divisions, offering competitors of all ages and abilities the chance for a varied day of racing. The event also includes opportunities for disabled rowers to race.

The watersports centre has also been extended this year and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to mark the official opening of the extension on Saturday afternoon, once the racing had finished.
