A YOUNG girl has seen her bedroom transformed in a TV-style DIY SOS revamp to help keep her spirits up as she fights leukaemia.

Amelia Wilson, who shares a room with her twin sister Gracie, can now enjoy a specially designed bedroom which includes wardrobes, a bookshelf, over-bed storage, the latest LED lighting at both ends of the room with reading lights over the bed, a new radiator and even ‘hidey holes’ for the girls’ teddy bears.

As a result, the eight-year-old, of Bowes Road, Billingham, will be able to take full advantage of her new bedroom as she continues her chemotherapy course to combat the illness.

Her mother, Susan Wilson, who works in the finance department of Tees Active, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant. It means everything to me and I am so grateful to Paul, Wayne and everybody involved. They’ve given the girls the best room in the house by far.

“To have somewhere so beautiful and cosy for Amelia to come home to is the best tonic in the world."

Paul Henderson, director of Court Homemakers, who decided to step in when he heard the girls were sharing a bedroom that offered none of the comforts or facilities that would help Amelia to cope with her illness.

He used his business contacts to contact Wayne Jones at Franks the Flooring Store who agreed to help.

“It’s a heart-breaking situation for the family,” said Mr Henderson. “There was no storage room whatsoever in the little girls’ bedroom and life was proving very difficult for them. If you can put a smile on a child’s face, how can you not offer to help?”
