A TEENAGER is critical but stable in hospital after an accident on Teesside.

The 19-year-old was airlifted to hospital after being knocked down on Diligence Way, the Kingsmead Estate in Eaglescliffe at around 3.15pm on Sunday.

The victim, who is from the Stockton area but does not live on the street, suffered head, chest and facial injuries and was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he was said to be in a stable condition.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “A male pedestrian was struck by a blue Audi A1 and sustained critical head, chest and facial injuries.

“The patient was given a general anaesthetic by the helicopter crew who then had to use specialist equipment to manage the facial injuries”.

A police spokeswoman said no arrests have been made and all witnesses have been spoken to.
