THE Conservative Group on Stockton Council has re-elected Ben Houchen as leader following this month’s local election result.

The local Conservative group increased its representation on the council, which followed the successful re-election of James Wharton MP to Parliament.

Mr Houchen, 27, a solicitor, who took over as leader from the retiring Ken Lupton, said he was delighted and honoured to have been re-elected as leader of the group.

“We have an excellent group of experienced and newly elected councillors who are ready and raring to go,” he said. “As leader of the official opposition group I will make sure that we hold the Labour-run council to account.”

Stockton Conservatives also selected Phil Dennis, Eaglescliffe councillor, as their new deputy leader and Lynn Hall, Hartburn councillor as secretary.
