A NEW furniture store was officially opened today (Thursday, May 7) in a bid to boost the coffers of a charity which supports families affected by autism.

The Daisy Chain charity superstore is housed in the former Dallas carpets showroom and warehouse on Portrack Lane, Stockton.

It has more than 15,000 square feet of floor space and will provide a fresh income stream for the charity.

The official opening was carried out by Alex Cunningham, who was hoping to be re-elected as the Labour MP for Stockton North, the constituency in which Calf Fallow Farm, the home of Daisy Chain, lies.

Mr Cunningham said: “This is a terrific venture and I can only wish it every success. I am sure I have never seen a charity venture on this scale before.”

Judith Haysmore, chief executive of the charity, said: “It’s great to be open for business and see the people coming in and already starting to shop.

“I would like to give a big thanks to everyone who has made this possible, it’s been a huge team effort.

“We have to make sure we keep a steady flow of furniture donations coming in, and we can collect by arrangement.”
