DESPITE fine weather and calm seas, lifeboat volunteers were tasked to carry out two rescues off the coast of Hartlepool at the weekend.

RNLI crew were called out at 4.55pm on Saturday to help a man whose jetski had broken down off Middleton beach.

The inshore lifeboat was launched at 5.12pm, rescued the jetski rider and towed the craft back to Hartlepool marina.

Just an hour later the lifeboat was launched again to help a 17ft boat which had broken down off the Headland, Hartlepool.

The lifeboat was on scene by 6.15pm and the boat was again towed to Hartlepool Marina.

Inshore lifeboat helm Mark Barker said: "(The call outs) were two straightforward tow jobs in near perfect sea conditions but still something myself and fellow volunteers constantly train to deal with."
