RESEARCH shows most people turn to the internet for help when their pet is unwell.
At least 75 per cent of pet owners use search engines to look up their furry friend's symptoms, with many of those going on to follow advice found online.
The figures come from Asda Money and White Cross Vets, which has practices in Coulby Newham and Redcar.
White Cross research also shows that some common ailments are on the rise, with cases of arthritis and obesity in pets increasing significantly.
Rob Reid, clinic director in Coulby Newham, said: "It’s no secret that lots of people try to self-diagnose their own illnesses on the internet but now it seems that this phenomenon has spread to our pets’ health as well.
"Whilst it’s great that pet owners are taking such a proactive role in the wellbeing of their pets, I’d always urge people to back up their online research with a conversation with their vet.”
