A TEAM of energetic students were joined by an international athlete as they took part in a The Nation’s Sport Relief Billion Steps Challenge.

Sport and Fitness students from Redcar and Cleveland College were joined by GB distance runner Matty Hynes, who popped in to kick-start the event.

The eight-strong team had to top a whopping 10,000 steps each throughout the day to hit their goal.

The GB athlete said: “There’s not enough said about how much sport brings people together, it breaks down barriers and gives young people the confidence and skills to work as a team. These are important life lessons whatever sector you work in.”

The event formed part of the College’s Sport Relief activities taking place this week, raising money to help tackle critical issues affecting people across the UK and the world.

Lecturer in sport and fitness Adam Livingstone said: “Our aim was to raise awareness and as much money as possible for Sport Relief, helping those that are less fortunate both in the UK and the wider world.”

Students taking part were Rhys Mucklow, Jordan Woodall, Brittany Chambers, Matthew Batkin, Chloe Lillystone, Marcus Brewis, Jack Borrell and Jamie Harrison.

All kept track of their progress by counting their steps on the dedicated Sport Relief app. To donate visit my.sportrelief.com/sponsor/redcarcollegesport
