A FOOTBALL club is set to light up the league thanks to a £50,000 donation.

Redcar Town FC will be installing eight 15 metre high floodlights at its home ground at the Mo Mowlam Memorial Park.

The club received a £47,580.00 funding award from SUEZ Communities Trust for their project: Lighting up the Pitch.

Craig Gibbin, treasurer of the club, who is leading the project said “This is a historic moment for the football club and undoubtedly will change the whole dynamics of Redcar Town Football Club. The help and assistance given from SUEZ Communities Trust from the start to the finish of the project has been invaluable and many thanks must go to Pete Sessions and his team.”

This project will see the installation of the floodlight columns and fit for purpose pitch side lighting to meet the FA’s National Ground Grading step 6.

Marianne Ivin, of SUEZ Communities Trust, added “This is clearly a very important project to the club and the ability to be able to train longer and use their own facilities will certainly make a big difference to their aspirations.”

The floodlighting is expected to increase usage at the football club, which has been targeted several times by vandals and burglars in the last few years.

Earlier this year dozens of supporters turned out to give the ground, on the Trunk Road, next to Redcar Fire Station, a spruce up.

Almost 20 teams, from under seven boys to two adult teams and two under ten girls’ teams and a ladies team, take advantage of the ground and facilities throughout the year.
