TALENTED young musicians are being offered the chance to fine-tune their skills thanks to a grant designed to get them involved.

Teesside music organisation musinc is looking from groups and schools in Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcar & Cleveland, to apply for up to £750 for projects that involve young people in music making activities.

The Ignition Fund has recently funded projects that have seen young people playing steel pans in Brambles Farm, samba drums at Corpus Christi school and creating songs and soundtracks for the Skinningrove Bonfire and Middlesbrough myplace.

Gwyneth Lamb, development officer at musinc, said: “We know that young people can bring about positive change in their lives by getting involved in music.

“We want to hear from any youth group or school who have ideas they want to try out. We want to reach those young people most in need, who might be facing challenges in their lives.”

The Ignition Fund supports activity for young people age ten plus, living in the Teesside area.
