A WOMAN was followed along the beach at Redcar by a man screaming at her from the clifftops for almost two miles following a "dog rage" incident.

The Guisborough woman was walking her German pointer along the cliffs between Redcar and Marske when it approached another man's two dogs.

She has made a complaint to Cleveland Police, who are looking into the incident.

"He started shouting and swearing at me," she said. "Initially I took no notice.

"I didn't want to say anything to provoke him so I just kept quiet.

"After about ten minutes of him following me along the cliff top I walked down on to the beach to try to get away from him - but he kept following me along the cliff as I was on the beach.

"Every so often he stopped and shouted and waved his arms at me in anger.

"It went on for about 40 minutes or so, over about a mile and a half to two miles. At one point I looked ahead and the beach was completely empty - there was no-one else around. I felt really intimidated because I didn't know what he was going to do and he was getting closer."

Eventually the woman approached another dog walker on the beach for help.

She said: "I asked him how often he walked his dog along the beach and if he recognised the man shouting at me, but he didn't.

"He offered to walk back to my car with me at The Stray Cafe."

The woman said she had reported the incident to police, who told her there had been two similar incidents in recent days.

She added: "His anger was totally disproportionate to the incident of my dog approaching his two dogs."

She said the abusive had a Border collie and a smaller dog, possibly a terrier.

Police confirmed they had received a report and were looking into the incident.

However, they could find any record of whether there had been similar incidents involving a male walker being abusive to a female dog walker.
