UNEMPLOYED former steelworkers could find work with Nissan and Eddie Stobart at a jobs fair next weekend.

More than 80 companies and training providers will headline the latest jobs at a skills fair to help former SSI and supply chain workers find new opportunities.

The fair is being held at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough on Saturday, November 21 between 10am and 3pm.

Employers recruiting at the fair include Nissan, Celsa Steel, Eddie Stobart, EE and Cleveland Containers. Vacancies range from heavy industry to administration and logistics posts.

Chair of the SSI Task Force and Chief Executive of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council Amanda Skelton said: “Following the last task force jobs fair 107 former SSI workers have found new jobs as a direct result of attending the event.”

Scores of employment and retraining opportunities will be on show at the latest jobs fair – part of a package of support put in place to help former SSI workers since the Redcar steelworks closure.

The SSI Task Force has secured more than £42 million in total so far from Government to deliver on-going support to workers who lost their jobs at the Redcar steelworks, including a £16.5 million Jobs and Skills Fund to help local firms employ former SSI workers or their spouses.

Sue Soroczan, SSI Task Force workforce workstream leader, said: "The skills and work ethic of the SSI workers are in high demand and we have had huge demand from employers and training providers for places at the next jobs fair."
