A SECOND football club has been targeted by burglars in Redcar.

As previously reported by The Northern Echo, Redcar Town Football Club has been hit by three burglaries in just over a month and the club is trying to raise money to buy security shutters.

Now another club in the town, Redcar Athletic Football Club, on Green Lane, has been broken into sometime between 9pm last night, Tuesday, August 18 and 7am today.WED

Football equipment was taken from one of the portacabins and later recovered by police on a nearby footpath. A television set, cash, alcohol, chocolates and further football equipment was taken from another building belonging to the football club which have not yet been found.

A defiant message has been put on Redcar Athletic FC's Facebook page. It said: "Really annoyed, angry and sorry to report that some time last night the football club and its outbuildings have been burgled, ransacked and damaged.

"The scumbags who have done this have smashed windows broke all the locks stole football equipment a small amount of money, a TV and large amounts of food and drink.

"We are not the first club to suffer from some mindless individuals as Redcar Town has also suffered a similar break in recently. It has knocked everybody at the club for six but it wont stop us from carrying on providing opportunities for the decent people of Redcar to play football. If anybody has any information please get in touch or speak to the police."

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "The club do not have the funds to replace the items taken and police want to appeal to anyone with information regarding the thefts to contact PC David Armstrong on the non-emergency number 101, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 crimestoppers-uk.org."
