CANNABIS campaigners from across the country will descend on the region for a demonstration this weekend.
Teesside Cannabis Club is set to host its second annual Canna Camp Fest, taking place in Redcar on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2.
Pro-legalisation activists will spend two weeks sharing information, debating and enjoying a variety of entertainment, including sets from several comedians and live music.
Organiser John Holiday said the alcohol-free rally was not expected to attract problems and said the team had been liaising with Cleveland Police throughout.
He said: “We’re expecting people from all over the country and it’ll all help us to push for more public debate and raise awareness.
“We don’t expect trouble and we have people in place to ensure any potential disturbances are quelled quickly.”
He added: “We won’t be encouraging drug use though we can’t stop it.”
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “We are aware of the event and that the organisers wish it to be a peaceful event.
“In line with any event taking place in the Cleveland area, officers will take appropriate enforcement action if it’s evident that laws have been flouted.”
