FOOD lovers will be able to travel in style if they take advantage of a park and ride scheme for a free event next month.

TV fans will recognise the 1958 Bedford Duple Vega SB3 from regular appearances in ITV’s Heartbeat and the 41-seater bus will be on hand to carry foodies into the heart of town to enjoy Saltburn Food Festival.

People will be able to park free of charge on both the former council Coach Park opposite Saltburn Golf Club and the nearby car park of Saltburn Learning Campus.

All-day vintage bus tickets will then cost £2 for adults and nothing for under 16s, with the bus hopping between the car parks and the Food Festival on Milton Street at regular intervals throughout the day.

Festival organiser Lorna Jackson said: “The Food Festival is obviously a popular and busy day, and it’s great that we’ve been able to link up with both the golf club and the school to provide extra free parking just on the outskirts of the town this year.

“And the bus definitely adds that extra wow factor to the day. I was visiting Whitby earlier this year, saw this absolutely gorgeous bus, and pretty much hired it on the spot. I think it’s going to look fantastic here in Saltburn, and I know people will love being able to get on board.”

The festival, which takes place on Sunday, August 2 between 10am and 4pm on Milton Street, includes a street market featuring around seventy of the best independent food producers from the North-East and North Yorkshire, a kitchen academy for children, live music, world street food and live cookery demonstrations.
