“FORTUNATE” crash victims walked away from a collision that saw one vehicle land on its roof this morning.

Part of the A19 has been closed off to traffic as a result of a crash involving two cars, a Peugeot 207 and a Nissan Juke.

The A19 southbound between the junctions with the A1046 and A66 re-opened following the recovery of both vehicles.

Sergeant Steve Coulson said passengers had been fortunate to walk away from the crash, which saw one of the cars left upside down.

He said: “There were walking wounded but no serious injuries – fortunately for them, they walked away from it.”

Motorists experienced severe congestion in the area as a result of the incident.
