THE RSPCA is trying to trace the owner of a dog that was picked up on the streets of Middlesbrough.

The grey Neapolitan Mastiff was found on May 5 after they were called out by a member of public who spotted the dog collapsed on on Barsby Green.

A spokesman said: "We have been trying to locate the owner of a dog we collected in Middlesbrough over the last couple of weeks with no success. Due to the condition of the dog we would really like to make contact with his owners. Upon collecting the dog it became evident that it was in a poor state, underweight and that the dog had an injury to his shoulder.

"The dog is a male Neapolitan Mastiff type dog grey in colour. The dog had no collar or lead when found. He has pinned ears and a docked tail. If anyone recognises the dog or has any information that could help us locate the owners we urge them to contact the RSPCA."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the national cruelty telephone number 0300 1234 999 and leave a message for Inspector Gemma Lynch 13242.
