A DAREDEVIL is aiming to conquer her fears to help the NHS where she has been both a member of staff and now a patient.

June Parsons retired from Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital in 2014 after 35 years working in the NHS in departments including rheumatology and haematology ward 27 (now ward 33).

Months later she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and has bravely undergone a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy treatment.

The 55-year-old, from Billingham, is undertaking the Zip World Velocity, Bethesda - the longest zip slide in Wales on Tuesday, May 31 to raise money for the radiotherapy and oncology department at the hospital.

And keeping her company on her challenging adrenalin rush is family friend, Caroline Jackson and niece Farrah Jackson, both from Whitby.

The retired nurse said: “The care, treatment and service I have received has been out of this world. I wanted to give something back to thank all the staff for being so fantastic.

“This is a massive trial for me - I chose to do a zip slide as I am petrified of heights and I wanted to do something that would really challenge me and be exhilarating. I am a bit apprehensive as I have never done anything like this before, but I need to do something new and exciting if I am asking people to sponsor me.”
