A CAR that failed to stop for police collided with a number of other vehicles before hitting a 19-year-old man.
At around 2am on Sunday morning the green Vauxhall Astra made off from police on Wilson Street in Middlesbrough.
"Shortly following, the Astra collided with a number of other vehicles on Albert Road and also injured a 19-year-old male pedestrian," said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police.
"The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital with spinal injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
"The driver and passengers immediately left the Astra following the incident. A 20-year man, suspected to be the driver, was stopped by police and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. A 22-year-old passenger has also been arrested in connection with the incident."
Officers at the scene spoke to a number of witnesses, however they are appealing for anyone they have yet to speak to, to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
