A TAXI driver was stamped on and had a brick thrown at him after dropping off a group of people in Middlesbrough.

Police are appealing for information after the assault on Saltersgill Avenue near to the junction of Sunningdale Road.

The incident was reported on Sunday, May 3 at around 6.30am when the 29-year-old male minibus driver dropped off a group of four males and one woman. "Following a verbal altercation he was then kicked and his head and body were stamped on," said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police.

"A house brick is believed to have been thrown at the victim, leaving him with head injuries. He was later taken to James Cook University Hospital and was discharged the same day."

A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
