CREATIVE artists helped a Middlesbrough shopping centre create a huge piece of public art as part of Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Hillstreet unveiled the Hillstreet He’art, an eight foot heart-shaped sculpture made up of individual jigsaw pieces that have been hand-decorated by the people of Middlesbrough.
More than 200 customers got creative and decorated a segment of the Hillstreet He’art, inlcluding people from community groups such as Acklam Women’s Rugby Team, pupils from Breckon Hill Primary School and Newport Settlement Youth & Community Centre
The 200 pieces that make up the creation, which will be on display in the centre all this week, before being moved to a permanent home in the centre.
Peter Drabble, centre manager, said: “This Valentine’s Day we wanted to do something that would get the whole community involved and we’re thrilled with the response. The He’art looks fantastic and we certainly have some creative people here in Middlesbrough. We pride ourselves on operating at the heart of the community so it was really great to see so many people come along to the centre to get involved. We hope our customers enjoy the He’art this Valentine’s."
