A TEENAGER'S car has been badly damaged after an alleged robbery attempt.

The 18-year-old male was allegedly approached by a group of men who attacked his black Mercedes with a weapon at the rear of the shops at the junction of Catcote Road, Oxford Road and Walpole Road in Hartlepool.

It is alleged the men, who were in a red VW Golf and a silver Mitsubishi Pajero, later rammed into his vehicle in a car park on Kingsley Avenue.

Three men aged 33, 29 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and released under investigation.

Another man, 30, was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and was released under investigation. He was also arrested and charged with driving offences.

One man, 26, was charged with attempt robbery in connection with the offence and will appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on April 30.
