A SCIENCE event will help inspire pupils to pursue careers in technology, engineering or maths.

Dr Sarah Peers, Vice President of the Women's Engineering Society, will be giving a special talk called "Everyone's Game - Playing in Science and Engineering", next Thursday from 5.30pm to 7pm at Hartlepool College of Further Education.

Dr Peers, who is a maths and engineering graduate and post-graduate, has worked on planning structures for the offshore oil and gas industry.

She is now involved in a new project in Cumbria to develop ‘EnergyUnearthed’ - a festival of science, technology, engineering, maths and the arts which is aimed at increasing public understanding of energy and climate change and highlighting Cumbria’s global position in the energy sector.

Oliver Harness, Hartlepool Council’s Senior School Improvement Adviser, said: “Sarah is a very engaging personality and her talks are always very inspiring and, above all, fun.

“Science, technology, engineering and maths has moved on massively in recent years and there’s a wide range of wonderful and rewarding career opportunities for young people, as this event will show.

“Although Sarah’s talk is aimed primarily at young people and their parents, members of the wider public are also very welcome to come along as well.”
