A CAMPAIGN to name a new Dreamliner plane after tragic toddler Jacob Jenkins has polled 25,000 votes.

Travel company Thomson is running a competition to new its new 787 jet and supporters of Jacob's family have suggested "Fly High Jacob".

His parents Abigail Wilson and David Jenkins have approved the name and supporters from the Facebook Page, Follow the Balloons Jacob, have been urging everyone to vote.

Two-year-old Jacob choked on a grape in Pizza Hut in Hartlepool last month. He died in hospital several days later.

One of the supporters, Sue Gray, from Spennymoor, said another member of the Facebook group had the idea about the plane, and it took off.

"Not only would it be a wonderful tribute for Jacob to have a plane named after him, but the winner also gets £2,500 of holiday vouchers so that would be lovely for his parents after all they have been through," she said.

"I know they are supporting this. I am just pushing it and pushing it because as a grandmother I was so upset when I heard about Jacob and I just want to do something to help."

The top five entries with the highest number of votes are submitted to Thomson's judging panel to choose the name for the Dreamliner.

Another entry receiving tens of thousands of votes is Edie after two-year-old Edie Rose, from Scotland, who died in October after suffering a seizure. Some people have suggested that one wing is named after each child.
