A RALLYING call has been issued to encourage people to enter the Hartlepool Horticultural Show next month.

People from across the town will be able to show off their hard work in the Borough Hall on the Headland on Saturday, August 16 from12.30pm to 5pm and the next day from 11am to 4pm.

There are more than 100 categories, ranging from sweet peas, chrysanthemums and roses to heaviest potato, longest cucumber and best misshapen fruit or vegetable.

There are also home crafts categories for the best carrot cake, fruit pie and fruit scone and children’s sections including best miniature garden on a plate and best fruit or vegetable man or model.

The British Gladiolus Society will also be holding its northern regional competition at the event, attracting growers from all over the North and Midlands.

Show secretary Tom Hammond said: “We’re looking forward to some excellent entries in this year’s show, and with the wide range of categories it’s a great opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to have a go.”
