An archaeological dig is taking place in Elwick village near Hartlepool to try and uncover secrets of its ancient past. The investigation, which is being carried out by Tees Archaeology working with local people and volunteers, will take place on the village green until Saturday. The medieval village established by the Normans around 900 years ago. Members of the public are welcome to visit the excavation any day between 10am and 3pm.

VINTAGE FAIR: A ‘Chic Vintique’ fair with free admission is being held in Stockton’s Parish Gardens just off the town’s high street on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. It will feature a selection of vintage and retro finds as well as gifts and cupcakes. There will be musical entertainment and a tea room.
