CHILDREN will get the chance to take on a giant inflatable obstacle course at a 5k event on Easter Saturday.

Adult spaces are starting to fill up for the Gung Ho event, at Wynyard Hall, Wynyard, near Stockton, on Saturday March 31.

And a special session is being held in the morning for children aged five to 15 to take part in the massive course, which is filled with enough air to inflate more than 75 million footballs and features mazes, walls,

The event for grown-ups will take place later in the day.

Alex Winters, a former Cbeebies presenter, and the brains behind the event, said: “We have always had kids take part in Gung-Ho but for a while now I’ve wanted to have an event just for children.

“Now, with ‘Gung-Ho Kids’, young people will be able to go around the course with their friends before the adult event kicks off later in the day.

“When I was young I dreamed of going on classic kids’ TV shows like Total Wipeout, Fun House and It’s A Knockout. Now I am giving the next generation a chance to know what that’s like.

“Although children under 11 will need a chaperone, with ‘Gung-Ho Kids’ there will be no adult runners on the course, just parents or carers.

More than 150,000 people have taken on the challenge since Ms Winter first dreamed up the idea of a giant inflatable obstacle course for all the family.

This year will see it head to 15 locations, making it its biggest nationwide tour to date.

Tickets are priced at £10 for 5-15 year olds, and there is a reduced rate of £20 for chaperones and runners aged 16 and over.

Ms Winters added: "We have added new obstacles to make sure the course is as fun as it can be for 2018, and can’t wait to see as many people as possible duck, weave, climb and slide their way across the course.”

Runners will receive a free bib with race number, Gung-Ho T-shirt and headband, while any spectators can attend for free.
