A CLUB supporting people with learning disabilities has moved to a new home.

The new Grenfell Club was officially opened by Councillor Olwyn Peters, Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, and Middlesbrough FC's Richie Smallwood.

The club, now located in Grant Street, Redcar, has provided support and social activities for people with learning disabilities for more than 40 years.

It started life in a large house in the town and has expanded over the years to provide activities for more than 250 members from across the area.

Trustee for the club, Bryan Hubbard, said: "The members, trustees, staff and volunteers have worked closely over the past year with the contractors and the council to deliver the scheme.

"The development included weekly site visits as the building progressed which the members really enjoyed.

"We now have an eco-friendly building to help keep our bills down and for a small charity like ours it is a great help - it is a building fit for purpose for years to come. The members are thrilled to bits."

And the Mayor, Councillor Olwyn Peters said: "The council have worked closely with the club each step of the way to provide a quality facility that I hope exceeds their expectations and meets the needs of their members."

The club is open five nights a week for people with learning disabilities from the age of five upwards.
