A NEW-LOOK library will celebrate its first anniversary on World Book Day after attracting more than 165,000 visitors during the past year.

Redcar Library has also issued 73,600 books and welcomed 1,250 children to fun activities since opening on March 1 last year.

It will celebrate the landmark in style with a series of events to coincide with World Book Day, including a craft workshop for pre-school children taking place from 10am to11am and a family history taster session from 11am to noon.

Coatham Primary School pupils will visit between 2pm and 3pm, and the celebrations will conclude with a Mad Hatters' Tea Party at 3.30pm.

Council Leader George Dunning said: "The visitor numbers to the new library are absolutely fantastic and highlight what a superb community facility, with a friendly atmosphere, it has become."
