A CONSULTATION exercise has been launched for two separate improvement schemes on the seafront at Seaton Carew.

Hartlepool Borough Council is proposing to build a new children's play area beside one part of the promenade and create an Art Deco-style landscaped area further to the south.

The park is earmarked for the grassed area between the Seaton Reach restaurant/bar complex and Newburn Bridge, whilst the latter is planned for land around the beacon, close to the village green.

Playbuilder Grant money that the Council was awarded back in 2009 is supporting both schemes.

Richard Harlanderson, the council's green spaces development officer, said: "The proposed play area will be within a sensitively landscaped natural setting of grassed mounds, pathways and planting.

"The scheme aims to be sympathetic to the coastal setting, incorporating natural materials wherever possible.

"In respect of the other scheme, we aim to create something really special and colourful that will provide all year-round enjoyment for residents and visitors. The design combines hard landscaping with soft planting and mirrors the strong Art Deco style found in the design of the nearby Seaton Carew bus station.

Letters outlining both schemes have been sent to a number of homes closest to the development sites, but the plans will also be on display at Seaton Carew branch library in Station Lane until April 18.
