VISITORS to Eston cemetery are benefiting from improved facilities thanks to council action to address their concerns.

Local people contacted Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council earlier this year to call for increased water provision at the 28-acre cemetery.

They were concerned about people tending to loved ones' graves having to walk lengthy distances to and from the nearest water supply.

As a result, the Council has installed two new taps and two refillable water storage containers in the cemetery.

Resident June Robertson, who first contacted the Council, said: "I am so happy that, with a little perseverance, there will be additional water on hand to make it easier for all visitors to tend their family graves."

Councillor Sylvia Szintai, cabinet member for environment, added: "It had been unsatisfactory for people to be walking long distances carrying containers full of water, so this project is extremely welcome."
