A COMMUNITY seed exchange is being launched to encourage people to take up the “good life” and grow fresh produce.

Middlesbrough is holding its first “Seedy Sunday” bringing together gardeners from across the town and beyond to swap seeds, plants, gardening equipment and books.

Catherine Boyle, Middlesbrough Environment City’s Growing Together Project Officer, said the free event was an exciting step towards healthy living.

“These kind of things are really popular in the south, but it’s quite groundbreaking for a northern town!,” she said.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet like-minded souls and expand the range of what you grow, or to get advice and equipment to get started.

“It’ll be fun and informal, with a great party atmosphere and a wonderful afternoon out for Middlesbrough’s growing families.

The seed exchange will meet for the first time on Sunday, March 21, at the Hebrew Prayer Centre on Ayresome Green Lane, opposite the site of the old General Hospital in Linthorpe between noon and 2pm.

Seedy Sunday is a joint venture between Middlesbrough Environment City and Linthorpe Community Primary School and will involve several local businesses and organisations For more information contact Catherine Boyle on 01642-811300 or email catherineboyle.mec@classmail.co.uk
