A DEVOTED father is taking a leap of faith to raise money for the hospital treating his child born with an unusual condition.

Andrew Geelan, 31, is doing a sponsored zip wire next month at Everton Football Club’s Goodison Park ground in aid of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool where his baby will undergo major surgery.

David was born with deep-set temples caused by them fusing together in the womb during the first three months of pregnancy.

He has been diagnosed with Metopic craniosynistosis which only occurs in one in 3,000 births.

Now five-months-old, the boy will have surgery later this year to remove his forehead and remould the bone.

If the operation is not performed his brain could put pressure on his fragile skull and could lead to learning difficulties in later life.

Mr Geelan, who lives in Middlesbrough with his wife, Mary-Ann, 26, and their two older sons, Joseph, four, and Thomas, three.

Their local school, Overfields Primary, is helping the family raise money for the Alder Hey’s Imagine Appeal.

Mr Geelan said: “I have never done anything like this before and I am very nervous about it but the hospital has been fantastic.

“We want to do all we can to help them treat the 200,000 children they look after each year.”
