BUILDING society customers have had the chance to buy exclusive hand knitted poppies.
Customer sales assistant Pam Jones at the Yarm branch of Darlington Building Society has been busily knitting to keep up with the demand for the popular poppies.
The money raised from the sales of the distinctive poppies will be boosted by a donation made from the Society’s annual community support fund. Last year the branch raised £450 for the appeal.
The keen knitter said: “Knitting has always been a passion of mine and I’m really glad I can put it to good use and raise money for such a fantastic charity.
“I started making poppies for the girls in the branch and after receiving lots of compliments from customers I came up with the idea of raising money. The response has been overwhelming and everybody has been generously buying the poppies. I have very sore fingers but it’s definitely worth it.”
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion's biggest fundraising campaign and runs year-round.
