THE daughter of an elderly Middlesbrough woman has offered her heartfelt thanks to the people she credits with saving her elderly mother’s life.
Liz Eaton, also from Middlesbrough, was alerted to her mother’s life threatening situation by the HomeCall contact centre after her mother, Veronica Taylor, 84, contacted the service using her personal alarm pendent.
The pensioner used the emergency contact system after suffering what transpired to be a potentially deadly stroke.
After the alarm was raised, staff alerted the emergency services, who quickly sent an ambulance to assist the very distressed pensioner. Mrs Taylor is now recovering well in hospital and is undergoing physiotherapy as part of her rehabilitation.
Her daughter said: “Without a doubt this service saved mam’s life and we are so, so grateful. The experience was truly horrific, and we can’t bear to think of what could have happened to mam if HomeCall hadn’t been on hand.”
The scheme, part of the Redcar based Coast and Country Housing Group, provides a range of services geared towards supporting vulnerable, elderly and disabled people to live full, active and independent lives.
Jason Lowe, head of independent living services, said: “The service is about giving vulnerable people a better quality of life and aiding with their independence. It allows family members to have the confidence that help is available should it be required.
“It is a great relief to hear that Veronica is doing so well. What happened to her demonstrates how HomeCall can aid in the safety, happiness and wellbeing of people who want to remain as independent as possible for as long as they can.”
