THE organisers of a cricket day with a difference are asking businesses to support the event.
On Sunday August 19 the players of Tantobie Cricket Club, near Stanley , will take to the field wearing blindfolds.
They will get an insight into what their opponents on the day, Durham Visually Impaired Cricket Club, experience.
The event, at Tantobie’s South View ground, is being held to raise money for Durham who are in their first season in a national league that plays to specially-adapted rules.
A similar event last year raised £700 towards the team’s travel expenses.
The team’s spokesman, Carl “Macar’’ McGee, who is a totally blind player, said: “It is shaping up to a great day. We want as many people to come along as possible.
“As the cricket there will be a raffle, tombola , auction and refreshments.
“It would be great is we could get sponsorship, whether it be money, or donations for the raffle, tombola and auction The event will be held from 1.30pm to 6pm.
Anyone who wants to sponsotr the event can find out more from Mr McGee by calling 07788 790731 or emailing carlmacar@btinternet.com
