THOUSANDS of trout have died after “criminal damage” at a hatchery.
The tank at Bolton Abbey Trout Hatchery, near Skipton, contained 20,000 American Rainbow Trout.
The incident happened between 2pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday, when an unknown person entered the hatchery near to Strid Wood, and diverted an essential water supply pipe to a large storage tank containing the trout.
Police said the water became “devoid of oxygen”, causing the fish to die.
Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 12180033109.
