A PENSIONER has died and another is fighting for life after a two-car collision in North Yorkshire.

The smash happened at 12.35pm on Saturday and involved a white Toyota Aygo and a blue Volkswagen Tiguan.

The white Aygo, driven by an 89-year-old man from York with an 84-year-old woman passenger was travelling along Corban Lane from Wigginton towards Shipton-by-Beningborough.

The Tiguan, driven by a 67-year-old man with a 65-year-old woman passenger and two children aged six and seven, was travelling in the opposite direction.

The 84-year-old female in the Aygo was taken to York District Hospital by ambulance, where she later died. The 89-year-old driver of the Aygo was also taken to York District Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The occupants of the Tiguan sustained minor injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who saw the two vehicles prior to the incident, to contact the major collision investigation team on 01609-643185 and speak to Detective Sergeant Jeremy Bartley or Detective Constable Kirsten Aldridge.
