A TV presenter visited a leading learning centre to inspire children and teachers with the study of space.

Dallas Campbell visited the National STEM Learning Centre in York to talk about the qualities needed to become an astronaut to the future of space exploration.

Over 100 people listened to the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) needed to go into space.

He also showed a space suit identical to the one that British astronaut Tim Peake would have worn during his stay on the International Space Station.

The presenter took questions and talked with teachers – many of whom have been awarded the Space Education Quality Mark (SEQM).

Alex Brown, who runs the European Space Agency’s UK education programme at the centre, said: “It was fantastic to have Dallas Campbell come to our centre and inspire people with his unique take on space exploration."

Mr Campbell is best known as a presenter on the factual Channel 5 series The Gadget Show in 2008 and BBC One science series Bang Goes the Theory from 2009 to 2012.

He recently published his first book about space travel titled Ad Astra: An Illustrated Guide to Leaving the Planet.
