A TEN-day food festival is to host a Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning every day of the celebration.

York Food and Drink Festival runs from September 22 until October 1 in the city and will be running the coffee mornings at the food hub on St Sampson’s Square, where AstroTurf and a picket fence will create the coffee morning area.

Cakes for the coffee morning will be sourced from the festival’s many local bakers and many of the participants will be donating some of their proceeds to the charity.

Festival director Michael Hjort said they were aiming to make it the biggest coffee event in the city.

Sarah Child, from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “This is the first time that we have been able to have such a major presence at the festival and we are delighted with the support.”

The festival will also feature markets, pop-up cookery workshops, food demonstrations, an ale trail and live music.
