A RUNNER completed a trio of endurance events to show his appreciation of hospital staff who cared for his 18-month-old-son.
Oliver Wilson was admitted to Harrogate District Hospital with breathing difficulties in March this year and after a diagnosis of bronchitis spent several nights recovering in the children’s ward.
And dad Dan, a keen runner, decided to show his gratitude by completing a triathlon, a 24 hour relay race and a marathon within the space of a few weeks.
He completed the final marathon at the weekend – running 13 laps of Harrogate Stray – and was joined by a host of supporters, who ran with him for various stretches of the run.
“I was overwhelmed with the support I received. I had no idea so many people would join me and their stories about why they were running with me inspired me to keep going,” said Dan.
The hospital’s community fund-raiser David Fisher said: “The support Dan received from so many others joining him on the run shows just what an amazing community we live in.”
So far Dan’s efforts have raised more than £1,000 for the children’s ward.
