DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a man sustained serious head injuries during an early-hours attack in the centre of York.

At around 3.25am on November 5 a 32-year-old local man was assaulted on Bootham Row and knocked to the ground.

He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries where he currently remains in a serious condition.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

In particular, they are appealing to a group of three men, possibly aged in their late teens, one of which called for an ambulance, to contact them. The men left the scene before the emergency services arrived.

Two men from York aged 18 and 19 have been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail
