THE father of missing North Yorkshire chef Claudia Lawrence will be in Parliament on Tuesday to speak with MPs and Peers.

Peter Lawrence will be encouraging MPs to introduce legislation allowing families of people who have gone missing to deal with their loved ones’ affairs.

The legislation - known as Claudia’s Law - was agreed by the Government more than 18 months ago, but has not yet been delivered.

He said: “With the changes to the ministerial teams following Mrs May becoming Prime Minister it is a good time to remind the justice department that the government has consulted on the bill and it is now high time legislation was brought forward to help the thousands of families who find themselves in the predicament of having someone missing but not being able to do anything about their business affairs.”

York MP Rachael Maskell also recently backed the law, which has been supported by charity Missing People, and urged ministers to deliver on the government’s promises.

She said: “We are not talking about something that demands a lot of Parliamentary time, and this has cross-party support.”

Mr Lawrence and other families with missing members will meet MPs and Peers and urge them to support Claudia’s Law.
