AN unfortunate owl had to be rescued by police.

The incident happened on the A64 near York on Wednesday.

"Rescued this morning from Lane 2 of A64 nr #York Thanks to @Minster_Vets for checking her over," said a member of North Yorkshire Police's road policing group.

"Now recovering at @YorkBirdOfPrey".

A spokesman for the York Bird of Prey Centre later tweeted: "The tawny owl is doing well after been treated by us for shock and given Glucose to help her energy levels. Thanks (for) rescuing her."
