POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information after a cyclist was attacked in an attempted robbery.

The incident happened at around 5.20pm on Monday, May 30, along the bank of the River Ouse near Scarborough Bridge in York.

The victim, a local man in his early twenties, was cycling along the riverbank when he was attacked by a group of teenagers who attempted to steal his bike.

The victim was pushed off his bike and punched in the face several times.

The boy who pushed and punched the victim is described as 5ft 11ins to 6ft tall and around 17-years-old. He had dirty blonde short hair and was of skinny build.

The victim was assisted by passers-by and managed to get away from the teenagers on his bike and cycled home.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information about the teenagers involved is urged to contact police.
