RAIDERS who smashed their way into an art gallery to steal a painting are being hunted by police.
The thieves broke into the Chantry House Gallery on Main Street in Ripley, near Harrogate, in the early hours of last Sunday, May 8.
They smashed a window and stole a painting by Nidderdale-based landscape artist Stephen Lennon called Umbrian Fells.
Police have now turned to the public for help in the hope of piecing together the full circumstances of the raid.
In particular they are appealing for information about anybody seen acting suspiciously in the area at the time or information on the whereabouts of the painting itself.
