THE English tradition of afternoon tea is being celebrated with free tea tasting workshops aboard a restored railway carriage.

The Leaves on the Line event at the National Railway Museum, in York, which runs until Sunday (August 16) will highlight the array of types of tea available on the Countess of York, a 1956 Pullman-style carriage.

Guests will be able to sample Taylors of Harrogate drinks ranging from Lady Grey and Imperial Gunpowder Green Tea to Afternoon Darjeeling and China Rose Petal today (Tuesday, August 11) and on Thursday (August 13), at 11am and 3pm.

The Countess of York will also be offering a Yorkshire-themed afternoon tea throughout the week, as part of national Afternoon Tea Week, to highlight its locally-sourced ingredients.

The museum is offering its Twitter followers the chance to win a Champagne Afternoon Tea for two on board the Countess of York, by tweeting a picture of yourself and your friends having a cup of tea and a piece of cake to @NRM_Events with the hashtags #AfternoonTeaWeek #LeavesOnTheLine. The winner will be announced on Monday (August 17).
