A HAVEN for cats is to close its doors for three months to allow its largest revamp in 20 years to take place.

The York Cats Protection Adoption Centre’s refurbishment will begin in mid-April to make sure the branch is able to meet the needs of unwanted cats and kittens in North Yorkshire.

Donations have flooded into the Huntington Road centre to fund the work, which will see its current wooden sheds and pens replaced with purpose-built buildings and uPVC pens respectively.

Centre manager James Hodgkison said: “We’ve helped to re-home over 100 cats and kittens already this year – but with ever increasing demand on our services we need to ensure our centre continues to offer the best quality of care.

“The new-look centre will ensure we can continue to meet the needs of unwanted cats and kittens of York, and the surrounding area, for the generations to come.”

He added: “We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who has, and continues to, generously donate towards the centre. Without them this wouldn’t be possible.”

Cats not rehomed before the closure will be transferred to other Cats Protection Adoption Centres.
