A WOMAN had to be cut free from the wreckage of her car on a busy major road yesterday (Saturday, February 14).

The accident happened on the A64 near the Hopgrove Roundabout at York at about 2.30pm. It involved a single car containing four people which left the road and ended up in a ditch.

A woman was left trapped inside and had to be cut free by fire crews who attended from York, Huntington and Tadcaster.

Both carriageways were temporarily closed to allow the air ambulance to land on the A64, but the woman was driven to hospital in a land ambulance.

She is believed to have suffered several broken bones, but not life-threatening injuries in the accident and the other people managed to walk away from the car with more minor injuries.

The carriageway approaching York’s Hopgrove Roundabout remained closed for several more hours while emergency crews attended the scene.

Traffic was diverted through York, causing traffic queues on a number of roads throughout the city.
