A SUBURBAN road has been cordoned off after a woman was viciously attacked in the early hours of this morning.

The 42-year-old victim was walking along Lady Road in the Clifton area of York when she was assaulted sometime between 4am and 4.30am.

She suffered head injuries in the incident and is currently receiving treatment in hospital, where her condition is described as serious but stable.

She is helping officers with the investigation and it is believed that she was assaulted by a man known to her.

Lady Road has been cordoned off as officers attempt to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident continue.

Detective Inspector Andrea Kell said: “Although it is believed that the victim knew her attacker, the investigation is still at an early stage so I am urging anyone with information that can help our enquiries to get in touch.

“If you were in the Lady Road area between 4am and 4.30am and either witnessed the assault take place or saw anyone acting suspiciously, I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
